EZ Log Tenon Cutter vs Lumberjack vs Veritas Cutters

I have been creating rustic log furniture and other log tenon projects for almost 20 years, and have been selling the EZ Log Tenon Cutters since 2010.

The Veritas cutters have been around for a long time. In the early years, I purchased three of the smaller Veritas Power Tenon Cutters to start out with. I still use them today for smaller projects. They worked better after I learned to put a shim under the blade before securing it to the cutter. The rounded blades on the Veritas cutter can be a little tricky to sharpen. I also had a hard time holding the drill steady while cutting a tenon, which produced gouges in the tenon as shown in the picture above.

I have never used any of the Lumbersmith Log Tenon Cutters, but they look similar to the Veritas cutters, and I am confident that they are quality products. Lumberjack offers four different types of cutters; Home, Pro, Commercial, and Industrial. To be able to cut a tenon at the end of a 4-1/2” log, they offer the Commercial 2” cutter at around $120, and their 2” Industrial Tenon Cuter at around $260.

The EZ Log Tenon Cutters will accept logs up to 4-1/2”, and can cut a tenon from 1” up to 3” diameter.   You just need one tool.

In doing some research for this article, I am finding that some of the Veritas cutters are out of stock at some of the distributors websites. In doing a simple search on Amazon, I see there are other brands out there like Timber Tuff and Vevor. I bought a chainsaw attachment from Timber Tuff a few years ago, but to be honest didn’t know they made tenon cutters. I never heard of Vevor until now while doing a search on Amazon. I am not an Amazon affiliate, nor do I sell the EZ tools on Amazon.

In early 2010 I purchased the 45-Degree EZ Log Tenon Cutter, which changed everything. One adjustable cutter for about the same price as each of the single-size pencil sharpener type cutters. I thought that was pretty cool, so I started selling them. Over the years the design of the EZ-45 Degree Log Tenon Cutters have improved by increasing the tenon diameter from 2-1/2” to 3”, and the adjustment bar is heavier. The length of the tenon can be up to 2-1/2”, which is similar to other cutters.

Like I said above, I’ve been selling these cutters for many years now, and I’m proud to report that we have a lot of satisfied customers.  We also offer spare parts,  screws, and cutting blades.
